Scottish Development International (SDI) Appoints New Head of Greater China and Energy Trade Lead for Asia Pacific

Kevin Liu has been appointed as SDI’s new Head of Greater China and Energy Trade Lead for Asia Pacific.


Kevin started in post on Monday 23 September and will be based in Beijing.  He replaces David Leven who has returned to Scotland to take up a role as Head of High Value Manufacturing for Scottish Enterprise. 

Kevin comes into the role having had a career that has spanned both the private and public sector with significant commercial experience covering trade and investment between the UK and China . 

Most recently he was Head of Communications & Marketing for Asia Pacific for the Department of International Trade (DIT) based out of Singapore. Prior to that he was Director of Sales with Scottish whisky company R&B Distillers, based in Edinburgh having previously founded a trading company that brought UK consumer brands into China.  He was a board director of a London-based political risk consultancy that advised on several Chinese outbound investments in oil & gas, mining, telecoms and infrastructure. He also spent some time working in the UK Government Cabinet office. He is a graduate of the London School of Economics. 

Based at the British Embassy in Beijing, he will oversee trade and investment between Scotland and China, and lead on promoting Scottish energy interests in important areas such as subsea engineering, oil and gas decommissioning and offshore wind across Asia Pacific. 

Speaking on his appointment Kevin said,I have come to see Scotland as an adopted homeland and am really looking forward to working with a wonderful team of international trade and investment professionals, and the fantastic Scottish business community. In particularly I am aware of the great relationship we have with the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai through our involvement in the Scottish Focus Group (SFG).  I look forward to meeting members of Scottish Connections very shortly and to continuing the great work we are doing together.
