In Q2 of 2014, one subject that may affect Chinese students graduating from the UK is the Tier 5 visa scheme.

A new subcategory visa, the Tier 5 (Government Authorised Exchange) visa has been added from 6 April 2014, the Overseas Government Language Programme. The Tier 5 migrant delivers language training in the UK and participates in a cultural exchange programme that is paid for by an overseas government or affiliated organisation. Length of stay in the UK can be granted for up to 24 months.

Five new schemes are added, and most importantly three of them aimed at Chinese applicants, including two schemes for teaching Mandarin and one for interns who have studied in the UK or in China who wish to help UK businesses expand their Chinese presence and to develop their trade links with China (International Student Internship Scheme). Major UK companies like BAE Systems have set up an intern and graduate programme and the Serious Fraud Office is also offering an exchange scheme.
