The HR Focus Group was re-vitalised in late November last year with a new focus group membership drive that resulted in a full complement of very diverse members from the Chamber Human Resources committee.

Members of the Human Resource community were polled around the same time regarding their preferences for type of events and content. The aggregate results of the survey showed:
- 64% of respondents attend HR events for networking
- Top topics of interest:
1) Retention / Turnover
2) Learning & Development (L&D)
3) HR Strategy; Organisational Development (OD)

The first annual meeting in February 2014 saw active and lively interaction amongst the HRFG membership in their discussion of the types of events to hold in the first two quarters that would reflect the survey results.

As our mission statement stresses the need for continuing diversity amongst our members, we have agreed that a quorum of three HRFG members will approve any new members/replacements for the group.

In order to propagate pro-active ownership of HRFG events, each event will be completely organised and chaired by two members, on a rotation basis.

The March panel, organised and chaired by Katherine Wang and Meghan Kirkland will focus on the perennial (and seasonal) hot topic of retention and selection in China – with a twist – in that the expert panellists from various multi-nationals are focusing on what they do differently and successfully.

Alexandra Hendrickson and Lisa Jin “own” the May event which will focus on the currently hot topic of HR’s role as a Business Partner and what this entails.

As we gallop into this first quarter in the Year of the Horse, we seek ideas on how to gather, galvanise and grow and cross-germinate ideas amongst the Chamber community and serve their Human Resource needs better.
