Job purpose

Editors are responsible for editing reports and presentations produced by consultants and transforming them into high-quality, client-ready documents. They also coach report writers in improving their writing.

The editor is a key member of the Asia-Pacific regional editing team and works primarily with the Shanghai-based Business Intelligence (BI) team and Forensics & Technology (F&T) teams across Asia.

Tasks 
and responsibilities

} Ensure that reports are well structured, well written and client ready. This means that reports address clients’ key questions; are clearly written, logical and analytical; and contain minimal errors of spelling and grammar

} Liaise with consultants to manage workflow and ensure that all reports are delivered according to agreed deadlines and within budget

} Edit reports from other APAC editing hubs 

} Provide constructive feedback to consultants regarding their reports and coach them on report writing to develop their professional writing skills

} Assist with the preparation of client proposals, presentations and marketing collateral

} Review case studies and help draft sanitised reports; present a “case of the month” in support of the BI team’s marketing efforts 

} Ensure adherence to Control Risks’ house style

Knowledge and 
experience

 

Essential

} Native English speaker proficiency

} At least five years of experience in copy editing and a strong track record of producing high-quality output

} Excellent copy editing and report writing skills

} Experience in long-form editing 

} Excellent attention to detail

} Boldness to reorganise and rewrite documents where necessary 

} Able to summarise, process and communicate information clearly

} Able to think critically and link information to commercial implications 

} Able to build constructive relationships and rapport with colleagues 

} Organised, deadline-driven and able to multi-task under pressure 

} Strong work ethic

} Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, PowerPoint and Visio

} Strong understanding of and interest in Greater China’s business environment

Qualifications and 
specialist skills

} At least a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (English, international relations, politics, history, economics, business, finance, social sciences, journalism, communications)

} Excellent command of written and spoken English

Note:

} Candidates with prior experience of journalism, publishing or risk consulting are preferred.

} This role is open to both Chinese nationals and foreigners.

This is not an entry-level position; fresh or recent graduates will not be considered.
