Following on from the remarkably successful British Business Awards Gala Dinner, attended by the SCOFCOM Chairman Mr. Zhang Xinsheng and his team members, the British Chamber led a delegation to visit the SCOFCOM premises on 20th November, to move the cooperation forward between the two parties.

Led by the Chamber Executive Director Phil Roebuck, the delegation combined representatives from various industries such as healthcare, finance, education, construction and public relations.

During the visit, Mr. Wang Xinpei, Vice Chairman of SCOFCOM and his team attentively responded to the following questions raised by the members.

  • New policy regarding representative office renewal in Shanghai
  • Shanghai’s priority in urban planning and city construction
  • Import and Export procedure clarification, including paperless customs clearance
  • Explanation of approval procedure for Environmental Impact Assessments
  • Tax policy related to commercial healthcare insurances

It was agreed at the meeting that, the Chamber and SCOFCOM will launch a new format of cooperation in 2013 which will be targeted towards solving practical issues that Chamber members are facing while operating in Shanghai. Future visits will have an industry focus, allowing more companies to have the opportunity to participate and ask detailed questions based on individual cases on operation level. SCOFCOM expressed the desire to make the investment environment better and easier for foreign companies, to submit feedback from the companies to the central government, to find opportunities to improve the working efficiency between different Shanghai functional government departments. Members are highly recommended to submit any concerns to the Chamber office anytime during the year.
