The British Chamber Shanghai's Human Resources Focus Group (HRFG) invites members to this event where a panel of experts will discuss two great HR change management issues:

  • How to make tough decisions easy when facing the need to downsize
  • How to attract talent quickly when facing fast growth and talent management skills of compliance

The discussion will focus on both the technical aspects as well as the human aspects and practical experience sharing. The main contents cover:

  • General rules and requirements that need to be followed for the design of the redundancy plan and the implementation process; 
  • Practical guideline on the implementation based on the cases study and marketing experience, such as, how to determine the proper lay off plan according to the legal requirements and marketing practice; the communication skills with employees to be downsized for a smooth implementation, and how to manage crisis in this connection, and etc.;
  • Experience sharing: how to attract talent as well as the link up between talent management and compliance in daily operation.

Nick Obolensky (Moderator)

CEO, Complex Adaptive Leadership Ltd

Nick has much experience in the issues regarding upsizing quickly and downsizing radically, both as a practitioner, consultant and academic. As a practitioner experience includes, as a FTSE 100 Director, direct responsibility for reducing a head office from 2,500 staff to 300, and also recruiting 200 talents for a major turnaround. As an academic experience includes being visiting professor at INSEAD, London Business School and IMD. Consultant experience includes assisting large companies both to attract and retain talent, as well as downsizing in a humane and effective way.

Peter Lin

Partner, PAS EY

Peter Lin is a senior Consulting Partner with more than 11 years of experience in HR transformation, Enterprise Performance Management, strategy management and 8 years in house management experience. He has rich experience in Organisation Transformation, Talent Management, Performance and Total Remuneration management. He is an expert in financial and auto industry. 

He is specialised in the enterprise transformation Architect, organisational development, talent management, human capital strategy, performance management, total remuneration management, change management. 

Prior to joining EY, Peter hold several senior management positions in leading consulting firms and in house. Representative Clients:

Lucy QI

Managing Consultant, CEO of Fengsou Shanghai

Lucy started her career as Aftersales Marketing Specialist in 1989 in Audi. She then changed into HR field from 1993. Lucy has over 25 years of HR experiences. She has worked in Audi, Saint-Gobain, GM, Delphi, CEIBS, Michelin, NIO. She played the role as HR leader for these company in Greater China region and Asia level. Lucy had rich experience in working with both multinational and local companies.

In her 25 years HR experiences, she led a lot of organisation development programmes including company cultural building, change management in addition to the core HR functions such as Staffing, Strategic HR Planning, Compensation and Benefit, Succession Planning, Training and Development and Talent/Organisation Development.

Being the Coach for almost 400 senior leaders in various functions of the organisation, Lucy worked with them by explaining them the 360 degree report, the various assessment report, opened them up, followed them and helped them to grow in the past 10 years to take up to higher positions. 

Lucy holds an BA of Engineering from DUT and EMBA from CEIBS. Lucy got her MBTI® certificate in 2010; she is certified to explain a number of global talent assessment tools including Harrison Assessments, DISC, Hogan, and PDP. She incorporates assessment tools in her coaching to the managers.

David Shi

Compliance Officer China, Syngenta

David is responsible for the compliance function in Syngenta China. Before joining Syngenta, David had ever worked for Siemens Healthineers and Junhe LLP (qualified PRC lawyer).

David has fundamental experience on compliance management and compliance investigation including dealing with the employee who had non-compliance conduct; cooperating with HR team to take appropriate action on such employee; carrying out root cause analysis on mitigating the risk detected during the compliance investigation.

David graduated from East China University of Political Science and Law with both LLB and LLM.
