This event is of interest to British expatriates living and working in Shanghai, especially for those who are looking at repatriation / have just arrived and need to understand the expat journey for when they will return.

To advise on the above from a financial perspective and tax implications, the Chamber's Financial Services Focus Group invites Tony Smith, Head of the St. James’s Place Tax and Technical Team in Asia. Tony's presentation will cover the following:

  • National Insurance Contribution Scheme and private and/or dormant pension options
  • Things to think about when you eventually repatriate back to the UK (or elsewhere)
  • UK Property Tax – how does this affect you

Tony will also answer open questions from the audience on anything tax and technical which would assist UK expatriates abroad.

Speaker Introduction

Tony Smith

Head of the St. James’s Place Tax and Technical Team in Asia

Tony has been in the financial services industry for 21 years.  Originally a financial adviser with Royal Sun Alliance, he then spent 12 years with AXA Wealth in the UK as a Business Development Manager, supporting independent financial advisers in relation to the provision of financial planning for their clients.  He transferred to St. James’s Place in 2012. 

Tony provides tax and technical support to St. James’s Place Partners focusing on taxation and trust issues in relation to particular client circumstances while assessing the impact and consequences of advice, for clients resident in Asia and the UK.  He specialises in estate planning, assisting with the tax efficient structuring of investments particular to client circumstances and providing guidance in relation to repatriation to the UK.
