AustCham Shanghai, in partnership with the Australian Consulate Shanghai, the British Chamber Shanghai and AmCham Shanghai, is proud to host Captain Jan Becker, an award-winning Australian entrepreneur, philanthropist, and business leader, to discuss the concept of leadership in the boardroom.

Captain Jan Becker was elected as Deputy Treasurer to the Board of the Helicopter Association International USA in 2014. She is the CEO of her company, Becker Helicopter Group, Chair of the Cherish Foundation (Gynaecological Cancer), and sits as a Board member for the Prince Charles Hospital Foundation. Captain Becker is also the founder of Midwife Vision Global Ltd, offering education and support to midwives in some of the most under-resourced areas of the world.

Captain Jan Becker will speak about leading by example in the boardroom, and how excellence in the boardroom can lead to outstanding contributions to making the world a better place.

Capt. Jan Becker

CEO, Becker Helicopter Group

It all started in an old shed on the Sunshine Coast, a 1961 Bell 47 Helicopter, and a dream. That inspiration drove the company to become the largest Helicopter Flight Academy in the Southern Hemisphere. Its fleet of helicopters is now twenty and the Bell 47 is still flown by Jan today.

Offering innovative Advanced Night Vision Goggles Training, it has procured multi-million dollar global contracts training the Next Generation of Helicopter Pilots from all over the world.

Jan has been recognised by numerous honours including the 2014 Telstra Business Women’s Queensland Business Owner Award, and the 2013 Telstra Australian Medium Business Award.

Jan is also the founder of Midwife Vision. Jan chooses to volunteer every year as a Midwife in one of Tanzania’s busiest labour wards, which delivers up to 100 babies a day. She is enrolled at USC to complete her PhD in Neonatal Resuscitation as a Master Trainer in “Helping Babies Breathe” program, assisting Tanzania towards achieving its United Nations Sustainable Millennium Goals.

Midwife Vision Global Ltd was formed to be an NFP which Jan is Chair and Tanzania as a NGO Charitable Company, where she has set up offices, and employed two Tanzanian staff; creating business with local in country people creating a sustainable revenue stream for then work in Tanzania.

Jan is a Commercial Helicopter Pilot, holds a Master of Aviation Management and in 2014 was elected to the Board of the Helicopter Association International, USA as Deputy Treasurer. She is the Chair of the Cherish Foundation (Gynaecological Cancer) and a Board member of the Prince Charles Hospital Foundation.
