On 12th April, a delegation from the British Chamber Shanghai, led by CSR Manager, Barry Kirkwood, returned to Lixin County, Anhui Province to visit four schools as part of the Chamber’s Bright Eyes Project.

Lixin Trip 1

On the trip were 18 volunteers, representing six member companies of the Chamber, they were Control Risks, Quaker Chemicals, FTI Consulting, New Vision Eye Clinic, the British Council and the University of Manchester China Centre.

This trip marked a return to the first three schools that were visited in October 2014, which was the pilot trip of the Bright Eyes Project. This meant the delegation were able to gain feedback on the schools and how the children had benefited from the glasses they had received a little over two years ago.

In total 1,530 children and teachers were given eye tests, of those it was found that 215 of them would need glasses.

The children were delighted to meet the volunteers, who educated and entertain the children with a series of science experiments, origami classes, English lessons, and other fun and games.

With perfect weather throughout the whole visit, everyone had a wonderful time, meeting with the children, and making friends with other volunteers on the trip.
