On the evening of the 24th May, over 530 guests gathered at the Pudong Shangri-la to attend the British Chamber Annual Charity Ball with this year’s theme of ‘A Night at the Movies’. Among the guests was a ‘star’ line-up including droogs, umpa lumpas, Robin Hood and his Merry Band of Thieves, the ever-elusive Jessica Rabbit as well as the Great Gatsby himself. Accompanied by a live performance from a young duet, the evening kicked off with a cocktail reception where guests mingled with the silver screen idols and took advantage of the Cinema backdrop for a photo opportunity.

Saturday Matinee

This year’s Charity Ball was packed with back-to-back live entertainment.

From the endearing memories of Children’s musicals to the skill and agility of a Kung Fu performance, from the gentle sounds of the Harp to the high energy dancing sounds of the live band, the guests were treated to 180 minutes of live entertainment.

Best Dressed Awards

This year’s Best Dressed Awards was a true ‘Clash of the Titans’, pitting the Matrix against Star Trek and Top Gun against Willy Wonka. However, the intimidating sight of FTI Consulting’s A Clockwork Orange pipped their competitors to the post to win the Best Dressed Table Award.

Though Roger Rabbit was nowhere to be seen, Jan McLure’s Jessica Rabbit took the Best Dressed Female Award and Ace Ventura scooped the Best Dressed Male Award.

Of course, the Charity Ball also provides a great opportunity to raise much needed funds to support Chamber projects in the community. This year, the Chamber was supporting two charity projects, the CereCare Wellness Centre for Children and The Library Project. There were certainly no Scrooges on the night and, thanks to the generosity of the guests, the Chamber is confident of achieving the RMB 250,000 total for the night.

This year’s ball was a great success and it will be the one to top next year when the Chamber celebrates its 100th Anniversary.

We’ll be back…
